I’m 27 year old woman and I was recently
prescribed Proscar 5mg to for my acne due to PCOS. Currently I’m taking
Jeanine OC (European OC similar to Diane 35 or US counterpart Yasmine) but I
would like to eventually have children so my questions are: How long can
Proscar stay in my body after I stop taking it? How long would I have to
wait after I stop taking to get pregnant? Are there any other side effects?

My hair has been thinning for over a year.
I've been on the oral contraceptive Yasmin. My doctor did tests and told me
that they showed my estrogen level to be somewhat low. He suggested I stop
the pill for a few weeks but I'm worried that this might make my hair loss
worse.

I have severe hot flashes and burning feet.
They started after I went off HRT several years ago. My doctor has tried
several things and I am now having success with 10 Miligrams of Lexapro a
day. I just can't figure how the burning feet has to do with hormones. I am
not depressed and would like to go off the Lexapro, but can't because of the
burning feet problem at night. I think the hot flashes are a little better,
but the feet aren't . Have you ever heard of this problem?

I am quite interested in trying breast
enhancement pills, but skeptical at the same time. I have been researching on
the internet about certain types. Several sites stated that there are only 4
herbs that help breasts grow safely: fenugreek, fennel, wild yam, saw
palmetto. I was wondering if these herbs would work with breast growth, and if
it would be safe to take these pills.

I have all the indicators for
PCOS (Acne/Alopecia, abnormal hormonal levels,
cysts, high cholesterol, abdominal weight gain) but I was given the 3 hour
glucose/insulin test and was told that I did not have an insulin resistance
problem, and therefore should not be medicated for it. But I wonder- is that
necessarily true? Could the 'normal' insulin levels for most people be wrong for
me? Should I ask to try an insulin level treating drug? I've been on hormonal
treatment for a year now and other than clearing my skin a little and somewhat
lessening my period pains it had not helped much.

I don't hear anyone talking about hormone
replacement and birth control. When one reaches peri-menopausal stages, there
is always the risk of an accidental pregnancy in people who think they have

40's. Do those HRT's like Orthoprefest function the same way as birth control

mind to my hair loss as I started out with an extremely full head of hair. As

and it is very emotionally straining on me. I have gone to many
dermatologists, and have been said to have androgenetic alopecia, which they
also said can not be helped. In your opinion can you tell me if you think my
hair loss sounds like it can be due to my hormones being imbalanced. And do
you think my emotionally scaring condition can be helped?

alopecia areata intermittently since I was six years old and it has now become
alopecia universalis as no treatments are working. My hair fell out as a child
almost annually until i got my period at 14yrs old, and didn't fall out aging
totally until I was 25. From 20 to 25 there were a couple of patches which
were treated with cortisone injections, but at 25 all my hair fell out and no
treatments (minoxidil, puva, diphencyprone) were effective. I have worn a wig
for 2 years and my hair has started to grow and fallen out again twice within

Answer
|
 | I have been losing a lot of hair for the
last 6 years, and at the beginning was diagnosed hyperandrogenism based on
hormone analyses, presumably due to PCOS. I also have some acne and recently
also some unwanted hair on the face. Now the hair loss is indeed notorious.
However, it does NOT follow the expected FEMALE PATTERN, but it is mainly on
the temples (where it is severe, both in density and thickness/length), and at
the sides, i.e. between temples and ears, where I notice a significant hair
density decline (although with no thinning as in temples). Can this pattern be
attributed to androgenic or other hormone-related alopecia, or do you think it
could be an independent problem?

I've been given a prescription for Estratest
(low dosage) for HRT because I complained of sexual dysfunction and hot
flashes. Previously I've been controlling hot flash symptoms for 3 years by
taking birth control (Alesse) pills. I am 50 years old. Recent studies show
possible problems with HRT but no problem with birth control. Why not just
stay on the birth control pills?
Also, since I have a healthy uterus shouldn't I be taking a combination of
estrogen and progesterone anyway? Estratest seems to be lacking progesterone. My
research shows an increased risk of uterine cancer if I don't take the combined
dosage. If I should have testosterone also (for libido) should my testosterone

 | I am hypothyroid with Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and adrenal fatigue. Currently I am only taking DHEA and thyroid replacement hormones. One symptom that has been bothering me considerably is a terrible red flush of the skin, particularly as the day progresses. I look like I have a terrible sunburn, and it's all over, even in places that haven't seen the sun in years!

 | I have a lot of the symptoms associated with hormone problems so I have been doing research. I was wondering if you have ever heard of Post Tubal Syndrome? If you have do you believe it could be a true affliction or if you haven't heard of it do you think it could be possible that having your tubes tied could result in hormone problems?

 | Over the couple of years after starting OrthoTriCyclen, I noticed that I started losing a lot of hair (losing hair in the shower and even after combing my hair AFTER getting out of the shower!) I just recently switched to Apri a couple of months ago and I still continue to lose a lot of hair. Is it possible that oral contraceptives can cause androgenic alopecia since there's the presence of androgens in these combination contraceptives?

 | I was reading the site regarding Androgenic Alopecia. I have been on 150mg of Spiro for almost six months. I get conflicting messages on weather it is safe or not. My endocrinologist said no way to me using Spiro until he seen in person how this was effecting me emotionally. I was wondering if in your experience treating women with Spironolactone, if you have seen them develop any health problems from this medication or would you say that it is a fairly safe drug to use?

I was on glucophage for about 2 months and it made me so ill, I finally just couldn't take the side effects anymore I was too miserable. I now have been on Actos 15 mg for about 2 months, and am also on Spironolactine, and the pill. How long do I have to be off of the Actos and spironolatine before I can conceive?

I’m not in menopause yet but I’m 47 so I know it is not far off. You read so much these days about treating menopause but it seems to me that it is a natural event, not a disease. Why should menopause need to be treated?

I am 31 and have thinning scalp hair probably due to too much testosterone. It is very worrisome and I am on Spironolactone and a birth control pill. They seem to help some but not as much as I'd like. I'm really concerned about the hair loss and also concerned because I would like to have a baby in the future and can't get PG while on these meds.
